Nursing Care provides government-subsidized, facility-based, nursing care and personal care services to residents who can no longer live on their own with family support or home care.
In addition to 24/7 nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, services include: assistance with grooming, hygiene and medication administration; as well as accommodation, meals, security, laundry, housekeeping and activities. Support levels range from minimal assistance to total dependent care. Residents with dementia or challenging behaviours are also included in this type of care.
All Nursing Homes in Nova Scotia are licensed to operate and are regulated by the Department of Health and Wellness, Continuing Care Division. The amount of subsidization eligibility is normally based on a means-tested ability to pay.
