About The MacLeod Group

The MacLeod Group was founded in 1981 with a vision to become the recognized leader in high-quality retirement living and senior care by building on a solid foundation of family values and a sense of community. Today, MacLeod Cares still holds fast to our late founder’s vision as we own and operate 14 long-term care facilities and retirement living communities across the Maritimes. The MacLeod Group also develops and manages a portfolio of commercial properties under our MacLeod Commercial Properties division.

Our Founders – Brian and Irene MacLeod

The late Brian and Irene MacLeod founded MacLeod Group Incorporated in 1984 which is now one of the largest nursing home operators in Atlantic Canada. He completed his BA from Mount Allison University, majoring in philosophy and psychology. Prior to the creation of the company, Brian served as Band Administrator of the Whycocomagh Band for three years and was later honored as an Honorary Chief for his service. In addition to being the founder of MacLeod Group, Brian has shared his experience with the local community, remaining active in several organizations including the St. James United Church Board, the Board of Directors for the Antigonish Affordable Housing Society, establishing the Festival Antigonish Foundation, serving on numerous committees at Mount Allison University, and being a member of the Board of Governors of Nova Scotia Community College and contributing a major gift to establish Mawio’mi place, a presentation and cultural space for Mi’kmaq students at the NSCC Campus in Port Hawkesbury. In 2023, Brain was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for Nova Scotia, an award that recognizes individuals who significantly impact their community, reflect a strong community spirit, volunteerism and service to others.
