Full Time Position, shared between Surf Lodge and Roseway Manor.

Summary
As a member of the Homes resident care team, the Dietitian collaborates with other members of the team to ensure quality nutrition care, that meets residents’ needs, is provided. Assesses nutritional status, implements and evaluates nutritional care plans for all residents.

Job Accountabilities
The Dietitian holds the primary accountability of developing residents’ nutrition care plans, which includes but is not limited to:
- Assessing, implementing, evaluating and monitoring care plans
- Monitoring resident food and fluid intake
- Considering factors that are particularly relevant to long term care such as dementia, dysphagia, diabetes, wound care management, challenging behaviours
- Conducting bedside swallowing assessments and mealtime observations, recommending appropriate texture modifications and nutritional supplement use/monitoring
- Involving resident and/or substitute decision maker in developing goals of care
- Conducting quarterly and annual nutrition assessments
- Managing resident dietary restrictions, allergies, preferences and supplements
- Documenting and maintaining accurate records
Collaborates with the health care team and provides clinical nutrition support:
- Attending care plan conferences, Pharmacy meetings and other multi-disciplinary meetings such as Risk Management as needed
- Educating residents, family and staff on healthy eating, feeding with sensitivity, interpreting nutrition recommendations
- Following goals and objectives that support the strategic direction & plan
- Adhering to standards of practice that comply with operating requirements, relevant legislation, professional standards and regulations
- Participating in professional development and continuing education
The Dietitian also holds a support accountability in the following areas:
- Ensuring compliance to applicable legislative, regulatory, program and licensing standards
- Identifying potential risks and solutions
- Following safety procedures based on best practice and industry standards
- Ensuring self-knowledge of the content and practices of the following manuals – Emergency plans, Fire & Safety, WHMIS, relevant Policies and Procedures, Occupational Health & Safety, Protection of Persons in Care Act and any other safety program implemented.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nutrition
- Completion of an accredited Dietetic Practicum or equivalent
- Licensed to practice through Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists
- Membership in Dietitians of Canada recommended
Must be able to be depended upon to plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion.
Two (2) (or acceptable equality) years of experience in long term care
Knowledgeable regarding computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.

Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
